Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was animated by a strong sense of human solidarity, believing that those created in God’s image belong to one another. In addition, Dr. King believed in the inherent dignity of all human beings, and the need to work toward creating a world where all humans can flourish. He helped individuals moved to action to change the world through his mission of peace and message of unity. It is in his memory that the MLK Parde & Celebration operates.  It is to serve our fellow man and women to ensure that Dr. King’s goals of eradicating poverty and injustice prevails.

Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018, a Community Outreach in Richmond Hill's though it's Mayor & City Council, made history by a proclamation of January 19, 2019 official day for the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King.  During the regular meeting of the city council, the council members voted unanimously, to approve the 2019 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, parade and celebration.  The proclamation was given to Craig & Sharon Butts of Unity in the Community, who have been working on this since 2016. The decided date is these events for the weekend before the MLK holiday observance, January 19, 2019.

The Historic 1st Annual Richmond Hill Martin Luther King, Jr, parade will follow the Christmas parade route and culminate in J. F. Gregory Park for the continued celebration.  All churches, businesses, families, organizations and individuals who are a part of the Richmond Hill community and surrounding areas are invited to be a part of the event, from planning though the celebration.
